What is a Climate Cafe Listening Circle? An informal group space with a simple structure in which people speak and listen to one another’s feelings and concerns about our changing climate. It is a tried and tested approach developed by the Climate Psychology Alliance (CPA). There are no formal speakers, action plans or debates but rather space for participants to share what’s on their mind in the face of an uncertain future.

Why have a Listening Circle? Polls show that concern for the climate and ecological crisis is shared by a majority of UK citizens yet feelings accompanying this can be difficult and complex, leading to division or silence and a sense of powerlessness.

Who for? Anyone who wants to ‘stop and think’ amidst the clamour - concerned citizen, person of faith, activist or armchair worrier. Local residents Dave Eldridge and Liz Bodycote, who have been trained in the CPA approach, will be participant facilitators. Book a place for one of the dates to join us! You can come as a ‘one off’ or may want to return to a future cafe. The group, of around 8 people, will be small enough to allow each person to speak freely and to enable respectful listening.

Where? The forest surroundings of the Quaker Meeting House will offer a calm and peaceful atmosphere along with tea, coffee and cake. The space has been generously provided rent free by Wanstead Quakers.
