We’re recruiting Community Advocates!
We’re looking for people who:
⟶ care about food justice
⟶ care about Waltham Forest
⟶ have lived experience of food injustice (for example, food insecurity)
As part of our Extended Table programme, we are hiring Community Advocates to play an important role in sharing insights and experiences of food issues in Waltham Forest.
This is a paid, occasional role that can be flexible to fit around your schedule and interests. You’ll be offered support, including a programme of trainings. These trainings will be based around the skills you are looking to grow when it comes to: expressing your experiences, understanding the food system and influencing change.
What you will do:
⟶ Share your experiences (in ways that feel meaningful for you, see optional opportunities below)
⟶ Meet with other advocates to share perspectives and ideas
⟶ Attend occasional community events, listening out for issues and ideas raised by the community
Other opportunities (optional, with support):
Making videos, blogs or other creative pieces
Speaking at public events
Organising a local campaign
Details:
£20 an hour, including trainings + expenses (where relevant)
Averaging a few hours a month. Please note: hours will fluctuate
The funding for this role is for 3.5 years. Ideally we are looking for people who would like to be in the role for this time
You don’t need professional experience!
Passion; care; connection to the community; and lived experience are more important
How to apply:
Send an email, video or voicenote by 30th November answering:
1) What’s your connection to Waltham Forest? (e.g. do you live in the area?)
2) What made you want to apply?
3) What would you like to gain from this role?
4) What would you like to bring to the role?
Suggested length: a few paragraphs (300-ish words) or 5 minutes. These suggested lengths are for guidance only and are not strict limits.
Because this is only for an occasional role, we don’t want you to feel pressure to spend a long time on your application. It doesn’t need to be polished or formally-written. We mainly encourage you to speak from the heart.
If you would like to chat about the application or ask any questions, you are very welcome to get in touch.
The next step will be a short interview in-person or over the phone.
