July’s film night at the Hornbeam will be organised by Family Foundations Self-build Group – a new self-build group in Waltham Forest.

Family Foundation are being mentored by John Struthers who organised a community eco self-build for 10 families which was part of  the Hornbeam-run Waltham Forest Green Open Homes last month.

John will be talking on the night about his experience over several years campaigning for a self-build housing project for families in housing need, including his own. John and ten other families now live in a secluded, eco-friendly set of houses in Chapel End, E17 called Headway Gardens.

Films will also be shown by Family Foundations – a new self-build group who have been inspired by John and others at Headway Gardens to replicate the project for a new set of E17 families.

Hear their inspiring stories and learn how people are taking the housing crisis into their own hands.  Full interviews from their edited interviews with BBC Radio 4’s You and Yours programme will also be screened.
