The Hornbeam is a community and environmental hub – with a café! The café serves delicious, organic vegetarian meals using seasonal, fairly-traded and locally-produced ingredients. Photography exhibition of previous Green Open Homes. Energy Advice Pop-up on Monday as part of Hornbeam’s Community Monday, 11am-1.30pm.
1b. Forest Recycling Project: The Paint Place and reclaimed furniture, Sat 18th June 10am-4pm Forest Recycling Project, 2C Bakers Avenue, E17 9AW (behind the Hornbeam).

Visit FRP’s Paint Place Shop for surplus paint, upcycled furniture by Shed Homewares E17, tables made from reclaimed scaffolding by ThinkFound, and scaffolding planks for allotments and gardens. Plus drop-in workshop with Carla from Shed Homewares E17 (below) making beautiful things from reclaimed materials.

Sun 19 June, 3-5pm: Sustainable Hero Awards and Green Open Homes Wrap Party at FRP
itdoesthejob.com will award the winners of their Local Sustainable Hero competition. Join them for tasty snacks, inspiration and celebration and the Green Open Home ‘wrap’ party – time to quiz any hosts with any final eco-questions.

Visit Organiclea’s market stalls for fresh, locally-grown organic fruit and veg. View a display showing the solar panels, electric milkfloat and strawbale classroom used at Organiclea’s Hawkwood plant nursery in Chingford.

Lanka will also be selling home-grown organic plants and demonstrating organic gardening in a small space.

UF: Invisible rainwater harvester – we don’t know anyone else with one of these in Waltham Forest!
Professional rainwater harvesting system, collecting water in an underground tank, used in two toilets and washing machine.

Condensation and cold are common problems in Victorian terraces that have been tackled here.

UF: Community self-build, photovoltaic solar panels, insulation, glazing and water conservation taps. Amazing example of a housing association part self-build. This project inspired others to do the same during last year’s Green Open Homes – meet some of the self-builders at John’s house.

Nearly everything in Charlie’s house has been bought from Walthamstow Sell or Swap Facebook group, from charity shops, or salvaged and then upcycled. And it’s so stylish!
