Food for London

Happiness is….. making donated surplus food into lunch for People’s Kitchen

The Hornbeam is about inspiring people to produce more locally, and use less resources.

But we know we’re part of a broken food system so as well as working towards the alternatives, we are part of the Food for London project – diverting surplus food from landfill, feeding people that need it and building cooking and event skills too.

There are Food for London activities at most Community Mondays – the Peoples Kitchen community lunch on first and third Monday, or Jamming in the kitchen, or the ‘best before’ free food stall.

There are also ‘Best before’ stalls out and about – at the Friday Hill Drop-In in E4, and with Transition Leytonstone.

You can see all our events here  to find out more.

We are also planning more events with other community projects – do you have a kitchen?

Thanks Saul – 60 kilos of Cous Cous diverted from landfill!

Would you like to host a community lunch for the people that you work with? Or could you just let them know who we are, and send them our way?!

Do you know someone who’d like to build skills?  Who would like to volunteer to cook or process surplus food?  Or who could do with a meal?

Do you have a project that could use surplus food in what you do?

Are you a shop or wholesaler who could donate?  Thanks to the Veg Hut who have been supporting our Peoples Kitchen’s for a long time now and other shops too – Second Nature, TOday Bread and the Bakers Arms Veg Stall to name just some!
