Don’t miss Palm Greens Test Kitchen – ending 31 March 2019

We have so enjoyed having Palm Greens as the Hornbeam’s Test Kitchen since January – but remember they are only with us to end of March, so come and experience their culinary delights this month before they go!

You can experience Palm Greens amazing food from Thurs to Sundays:

(kitchen closes at 4pm daily)

Palm Greens is run by vegan culinary duo Kali and Membe and they are all about food that is fresh and made from scratch, flavour-packed, veg-led cooking.

They explain: “We use whole grains & largely organic ingredients, using local suppliers. Flavours are inspired by our travels, but using seasonal and local fresh produce, we serve up modern international flavours while keeping food fresh, vibrant and nutritionally balanced.”

Favourites such as the Tostada bowl; punchy Mexican flavours, the Kale Caesar; a twist on the classic & 
Daal with lemon, ginger oil & fresh sourdough. 

“We aim to make this type of food accessible and easy for guests, without skimping on quality, ethics, taste and fun. Food that benefits the mind and body, while keeping connections with our community and our planet.”

Kali is all about flavour and good quality ingredients, she’s worked internationally as a chef for over 10 years. She loves big flavours and to create fun exciting dishes that are also food healthy, and cruelty free. 

Palm Green plateMemby has worked in the music industry for 20 years, but he’s also a big lover of food and hospitality, combining forces he brings the charm and smile to the brand.

GARLIC MUSHROOM ON SOURDOUGH roast portobello, confit garlic, nutritional yeast & parsley, cashew caesar dressing on toasted sourdough – until 1pm (N)

GARLIC MUSHROOM WITH CAULIFLOWER PUREE roast portobello, confit garlic, nutritional yeast & parsley with miso spiked cauliflower puree & garlic breadcrumbs (S, GFO)

TOSTADA BOWL quinoa, black beans, roast squash, shredded cabbage, kale, pickled onion, topped with roast cauliflower tostada, chipotle crema, toasted seeds, guajillo oil ( SS, N, GF, M)

BEET THE HEAT tempeh, quinoa, shredded beet & carrot, mixed leaves, basil & tamari seeds. Ginger carrot dressing (S, SS, GF )

ROAST CAULIFLOWER & BEET PESTO SANDWICH with chives, mixed leaves, toasted seeds on sourdough focaccia (N, SS)

CARROT TURMERIC CHILI SOUP carrot, ginger, turmeric soup with a kick. Served with fresh sourdough

TAHINI CINNAMON APPLE TOAST tahini, maple & cinnamon baked apple on toasted sourdough. ADD Black Milq cardamom ice cream (N, SS)

COCONUT BLACK RICE PUDDING coconut black rice topped with caramalised sesame, coconut banana (SS, GF )

Cafe – longer opening times, new tasty menus

We’re open over Easter – come for an Easter Treat!

We have a new Kitchen Dream Team – Lucy (chef behind the Edible Ethics blog) and Frankie – and there’s a few changes to the menu and the opening times….

WE’RE OPENING EARLIER ON WEEKDAYS

Tues-Fri – 9am for morning coffee and drinks with hot food being served from 9.30 (including Good Friday) to 3pm, cafe to 5pm. New range of hot and cold vegan meals, snacks and cakes – see our menu.

WEEKEND OPENING is 10am-3.30pm for food, cafe open till 5pm (including Easter Weekend, but closed as normal on Monday).

Full menu available, plus all day vegan brunch for just £8 on Saturday.

Sundays we will be serving brunch from 10-12 and then rolling over into our Vegan Roast with all the trimmings for £9.95 from 12.00-3.30pm.

Introducing our new chef Lucy….
Lucy Johnson joins us from the Wulf and Lamb, having also been Head Chef for the ‘Real Junk Food Project‘, among others, in Sheffield. Some of you may have enjoyed her food at one of our Veganuary Hornbeam Nights supper-clubs. Check out her fantastic vegan cooking blog Edible Ethics .

She joins Frankie Ebdon who has cooked at the Hornbeam for over a year and between them they are cooking up some wonderful treats.

Come and meet Lucy, Frankie and others in the Hornbeam Team on our Earth Day Open Day and enjoy good food and company. We’ll have some wonderful treats for you to sample.

Food Standard Agency: Hornbeam is excellent 4 out of 5

We are delighted to inform customers that our food hygiene rating is an excellent 4.

However, PLEASE NOTE: The Hornbeam’s rating is incorrect on the Food Standard Association’s own website. See email transcript below from the Food Hygiene Agency to Jenny Parker, Cafe Manager at the Hornbeam cafe. From Anne Heeney the food standards inspector back in Feb:

‘Dear Kate & Jenny
I’m sorry that there has been a problem with your Food Hygiene Rating rescore failing to upload on the system.

I confirm that I visited the Hornbeam Café on 5th November 2015 and the rating was raised from 1 to 4 because hygiene conditions had improved. I am making enquiries as to why this happened and will ensure that the correct rating is displayed on the website as soon as possible.

I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
