Regular activities at the Learning Lodge

Sunday Family Club
First and third Sunday of every month, 2-4pm Learning Lodge and outside in the reserve when fine.
Pimp Hall Nature Reserve is a beautiful small wooded area in Chingford where we organise activities for people to spend valuable time in nature.

Every second and fourth Sunday enjoy quality time with your kids.Sunday Family Club Logo  Kids Kitchen will help you make delicious food with your under 5s and other activities will be taking place inside and outside the Learning Lodge such as outdoor learning, visits to Pimp Hall allotments, activities with the Friends of Pimp Hall Park. Activities will take place on the second and fourth Sunday of every month with activities from Kids Kitchen, Walk the Loop and Craft activities.

THE CHANGING YEAR
Monthly evening workshops exploring the changing seasons, old myths and magic, with Christine Watts of the Avalonia Centre.
April 26th    Springtime Magic – Beltane is a Celtic fire festival that celebrates of the coming of summer and the fertility of the coming year. Learn more about this tradition.

FRIDAY HILL 

DROP-IN TUESDAYS for Friday Hill tenants and neighbours, 2.30-5.30pm, at Friday Hill TMO Office, Chingdale Rd. E4 6HZ
We’re running drop-ins at Friday Hill  (NOT the Learning Lodge) every week and are looking for volunteers in Chingford E4 to help us out. Contact Elizabeth for more info.

Sun 7 and 21 May, 2-4pm, SUNDAY FAMILY CLUB. For children aged 0-8 years and their parent-carers. Older siblings are welcome… We will enjoy a range of outdoor and indoor activities, decorating our own maypole tree, looking out for birds, discovering a range of herbs and plants and nurturing them. Arts and crafts will also be there to enjoy.

Tues 9 May, *Flower Arranging with Simone (note this is at Friday Hill TMO, not the Learning Lodge)

Wed 10 May, 1-3pm, Walk the Loop. For children aged 0-8 years and their parent-carers. Older siblings are welcome. Join Olivia this second Wed of the month to walk around beautiful Pimp Hall Nature reserve and enjoy the blossoming plants, trees and shrubs. We will be looking out for birds and enjoying their different songs. We will also craft and paint our own fantastic birds. Contact Olivia.

Sat 20 May, 10am-1pmE4 Joy Riders: Family Bike Ride. Second outing of our new group Chingford JoyRiders. Meet outside Friday Hill TMO office and join a cycle ride ending at Pimp Hall Nature Reserve for a picnic. Suitable for beginners and anyone wanting a relaxed cycle.  

Wed 24 May, 6:30-8:30pm, *Myth and Magic talk: Summer-is-a-coming-in. FREE. Drop-in.

Sat 27 May, Green Open Spaces day organised by *Friends of Pimp Hall. Wildlife day starting with the Dawn Chorus and ending with Bat Watch. 11-3pm Families crafts and exploring the nature reserve.

Pay-what-you-feel stalls popping up in Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest Food Rescue are running pop-up ‘pay-what-you-feel’ food stalls around the borough to highlight the fact that food is often thrown away while it is still good enough to eat.

  • NEW POP-UP: Every saturday in May at Walthamstow Town Square, near the library, 9.00-15.30

Sssshhhhh….. this could be one of the most useful and beautiful days you could attend this year…..

It’s in a gorgeous and secret enclave of forest at Pimp Hall Nature Reserve in Chingford where the Hornbeam manage the Learning Lodge and put on wonderful events like this!

The Hornbeam is running its second Wellbeing Day at the Hornbeam Learning Lodge in Chingford with Dao Lu Thai Chi and 15+ other local groups to stage this wonderful event.

Tai Chi, yoga, singing, massage, kick boxing for young people, makin
g lights and lanterns and a glow walk, the list is endless. We even have a Men’s Shed Group for guy-friendly chat!

THE DAY’S SCHEDULE
Yoga (prevention of fall) for 60+ (11:00 – 12:00)
Singing for all (12:00 – 12:45)
Massage for mums (including pregnant women) (12:00 – 13:45)
Tai Chi & Laughter for girls/women (12:45 – 13:45)
Kickboxing for young people (13:45 – 14:45)
Chingford Gents Group (14:45 – 15:45)
Craft for family (15:45 – 17:00)
Seasonal Aromatic Herb Playtime (15:45 – 17:00)
Tai Chi at Sunset (17:00 – 18:00)

Workshops are first come, first served, due to limited spaces. There will be a signing-up list on the door. Book your ticket now and do spread the word…..this is a secret we want to share!

Learn how to make tasty, healthy family food on a budget on Sunday in the beautiful location of Pimp Hall Nature Reserve or on Monday at the Hornbeam Centre and Cafe.

We’ll be making Jack Munroe’s delicious 10p beanburgers. Kids can eat the fruits of your labour! Free, donations towards costs welcome. Craft activities also available for children if they don’t want to join in with the food activity.
Parents welcome with or without children, eat the burgers for lunch in our cafe or take them home with you!
