As part of the Hornbeam’s Community Mondays, Kids Kitchen will be on the third Monday of every month. Join us with your little-ins –  prepare and eat fresh healthy food with while singing songs, playing and washing up.

Kids Kitchen is a collective of Parents and Vegan Chefs who want to share food with young children. Creating spaces for Kids and parents to get stuck in and explore cooking, local, organic, fun food with out having to worry how much mess they are making!

If you have a child or children under 5 come to Kids’ Kitchen, or tell your friends who do to, and cook a fun, healthy lunch while exploring, enjoying and learning about food.

10am-12pm at the Hornbeam Cafe.
£4 (£2 concessions) – includes lunch for your child.

Green Enterprise Opportunity: Programme starting on 22nd April

Poster GEWe are delighted to announce a superb opportunity for potential Green Entrepreneurs in Waltham Forest. Hornbeam has partnered with the London Sustainability Exchange to offer  local entrepreneurs the chance to take part in a free 1 day a week, six week programme.
The programme will offer the group a chance to learn, innovate and create. The workshops will take place at the Hornbeam, 458 Hoe Street every Wednesday from 10 am – 4 pm from 22nd April until 27th May (there will be no session on 29th April).
The workshops will be facilitated by experienced social entrepreneur, the Tree Shepherd. Participants will be able to:
  • Develop an idea and bring it to market as a social enterprise
  • Refine your marketing, finance and project management skills
  • Gain confidence and skills to start your own social enterprise

Now recruiting for Green Open Homes Weekend 2015!

Have you made home improvements which have kept you warm and saved you money? If so, would you be willing to share your experience to inspire others? We’re looking for people to take part in this year’s Green Open Homes weekend on 16th & 17th May  2015.

Last year over 400 visits were made to 15 homes across the borough where energy saving measures were on show and householders were on hand to talk about the impact these had made on their homes and their fuel bills.

The Fork to Fork is 7.30pm – 10.30pm on the last Saturday each month.

The menu is susceptible to change as the growing climate in North East London can be somewhat unreliable…. however, for £20 we can guarantee a delicious and hearty 3 course meal. We are fully licensed serving organic wines and locally brewed beers.

The Hornbeam cafe, based in Walthamstow, North East London, is a not-for-profit social enterprise space which supports small scale local growers and producers by maintaining a locally sourced and seasonal menu. The Hornbeam cafe works closely with OrganicLea, a farming cooperative with a growing site based in Hawkwood, and links with many other small scale local food producers.

OrganicLea place an emphasis on propagating and growing heritage species, so you can expect some different-from-the-norm vegetables being cooked up at the Hornbeam cafe!

 

Waltham Forest Apple Day Saturday 11th October 2014

Apple day posterThis annual event is a celebration of the healthy, humble, handy apple  –  and all the other good things that Autumn brings. Highlights include:

  • Apples for sale, as well for tasting, pressing and bobbing by Organiclea
  • Food by Norman Loves
  • Crafts for all by Significant Seams
  • Tea and Cakes by Eat or Heat
  • Snow White by Grow your own Theatre
  • Plants and gardening advice by Vestry House Museum Gardeners
In addition there will be fruit trees and local produce for sale, live music, poetry, dance, a childrens’ area and a raffle, as well as access to the Vestry House Museum exhibition,  Raids, Rationing and Riots: Waltham Forest and the Great War and the We Love Low Cost Living Campaign Ration Challenge!
